Anli Hou

A craft-based artist creating narrative pieces in jewelry, sculpture, and objects design.’

Anli Hou's work redefines jewelry as a medium of expression far beyond ornamentation. She sees contemporary jewelry as a powerful language—capable of provoking thought, evoking emotion, and fostering meaningful human connection. Her creations reflect this belief, transforming jewelry into vessels for stories, memories, and societal reflection.

Much of Anli's work responds to the emotional distance in today's digital world. In an age dominated by social media and surface-level interaction, she explores how jewelry can be a tool for authentic communication. Her pieces function as a system of "visual recognition," helping wearers express shared values and spark deeper, face-to-face conversations. Through this approach, Anli encourages a return to genuine human connection.

Rooted in personal memories and emotional experiences, Anli's designs often bridge reality and imagination. Childhood fantasies, cultural exploration, and fleeting travel impressions influence her visual storytelling. To her, jewelry is a personal diary and a mirror of universal human experiences—capturing moments and turning them into tangible forms.

Her creative process is experimental and material-driven. She integrates traditional metals with unconventional materials like clay, wood, pearls, and textiles, constantly pushing the limits of jewelry-making. Anli is also intrigued by new ways of wearing jewelry, often designing pieces that challenge conventional adornment and invite interaction. She aims to create immersive experiences that inspire reflection and wonder.

In 2021, she launched her first collection, "Trance," beginning her journey as an independent designer. After earning a Master's degree from the Royal College of Art in 2022, she expanded her practice with collections like "Trance II" and "The Sea." Her work has been showcased internationally, including at Milano Jewelry Week, Romanian Jewelry Week, and Parallax Art Fair in London. She also explores tableware and object design, and her cutlery work was awarded and permanently collected by the Cutlers' Company in 2021.

For Anli, jewelry is a fusion of emotion and thought—personal yet shared, intimate yet socially aware. She also offers bespoke services, crafting unique, meaningful designs that reflect each client's story. Through her work, she invites wearers to see jewelry as decoration and a symbol of identity, memory, and connection.
